Wikis for project management, research and personal use

Jenny Connected

My wiki of choice is PBWorks – although I am also familiar with Wikispaces, but only through the work of others, i.e. other people have set them up and registered me as a user. I think Wikispaces has one – but PBWorks does not. This year the tool I have used the most to support my work has been a wiki. I have found it an invaluable tool, for both working in small research groups and working in large and small project teams.

Working in Blackboard

Defeated by technology

Jenny Connected

I have extensive experience with PBworks and some with Wikispaces. I joined Mike Caulfield’s Federated Wiki Happening on Wednesday, along with about another 30 people. Wednesday went well. I created my bio page and contributed another page (the first assignment), had a good look round and was fairly confident that I understood the basic principles. Since then it has all gone ‘pear shaped’.

Using technology in teaching

Jenny Connected

a VLE (my preference is Moodle, but I also work on Blackboard and WebCT), Email, discussion forums, WordPress and Blogger, a wiki (my preference is pbworks, but I have also used wikispaces and the VLE wikis), Word, Powerpoint (I only use this infrequently these days), Wimbacreate (to convert Word documents into webpages), Flickr for photo sharing, Youtube (I haven’t yet created a video, but use video created by others in my teaching). How do you use technology in your teaching?

About Forum communities vs social software 1 10 2008 Well, who’d have guessed. While looking for a software fix, I landed on Matt Mecham’s blog and his unscripted rant about the difference between forums and social networks. Which, unsurprisingly, I mostly agree with.
