Cisco WebEx Connect Questions

Collaborative Thinking

Predictions: WebEx Connect will need a strong IdM (Identity Management) play and will do so either through expanding what exists within PostPath or through an acquisition or a deep partnership. The cloud-based identity service will be key to expand on social networking aspects that will emerge around WebEx Connect. What about offline - does WebEx Connect implement Dojo Offline which is based on Google Gears? Does Cisco see SaaS as equal to WebEx Connect?

Collaborative Thinking: WebEx Connect: Tough Decisions Ahead For Large Enterprises

Collaborative Thinking

Ive talked to many investors on the web conferencing market over the years and have consistently said that the root value of WebEx was the MediaTone network - not the web conferencing service. WebEx Connect begins to solve that challenge. This has to be a concern of WebEx as well.

If it's Friday, it must be Adobe Connect

Endless Knots

All of the meetings we've had with Cisco of late have taken place in Webex, culminating in the extravaganza last Tuesday that combined Telepresence, Webex, and Cisco IPTV. All of a sudden, the webcams, used principally for family connections for years, are workhorses (so to speak). Then on Friday, for another client who shall go nameless but whose name you know, another webcast, this time via Adobe Connect, topic = "Leading and Motivating Remote/Virtual Teams."

Facebook IM Integration

Collaborative Thinking

Third (and last) thought: Given Cisco's acquisition of Jabber and efforts with WebEx Connect - you would imagine integration with Facebook as well. First thought: If Meebo can integrate with XMPP systems - why can't Microsoft? Note: This is not the first time I've picked on Microsoft (and others) for ignoring XMPP-based IM. Second thought: Why hasn't IBM integrated with Facebook's XMPP-based IM system?

Slideshare Launches Zipcast - Online Meetings for Everyone

This is going to hurt Cisco WebEx and Citrix GoToMeeting. Slideshare changed the dynamics of giving presentations - conference speakers could now leverage their conference work to reach a broader audience beyond their assigned meeting slot, and people who didn't get an invitation to talk at the conference could put their thoughts up alongside those who did. Last week, Slideshare took a big leap into online meetings , with the launch of Zipcast.

I’ve always found webinar software like WebEx , Elluminate , or GoToMeeting to be constraining and, because they try to be a “total solution&# they don’t play well with other uses or software. Because they’re popular they’re used in situations where they’re inappropriate. The Digital Habitats wiki, for example, doesn’t go into enough detail about their uses in community settings.

Who You Calling Virtual? Leading a Virtual Team

Mobile and Wireless Access to Collaboration Systems

Michael Sampson - Currents

Eg, mobile devices as web conferencing end points, eg WebEx on the iPhone, Fuze Meeting on the iPhone. I've been thinking about mobile and wireless access to collaboration systems, and how it has matured during the past three years. In terms of key themes, my top-of-mind sense is that: It's gotten a lot better. New collaboration systems -- places where people work together -- have better baseline mobile access options than they did three years ago. New devices have improved the game.

Every week I try some new tools (like this week vialogues ) and honestly? Occasionally the high number of tools and possibilities make me restless.
