Michael Sampson - Currents

One study commissioned by NEC and conducted by researchers at the University of Utah showed that people using a dual-display machine to do a text-editing task were 44 per cent more productive than those who used a single monitor. Farhad questions the benefit of using multiple monitors on his desktop computer , arguing that the benefits have been oversold: “ The conventional argument in favour of dual monitors rests on what might be called the two-window problem.

Our adventures / sight-seeing / hiking in southern Utah (I hesitate to call this R&R, because it was neither resting nor relaxing, but certainly fun). Yes, life intervened with my inviting you all along on the journey. In the next few days, that’s probably going to happen again.

On the road again to co-host

Chris Corrigan

Off to Salt Lake City Utah to work with Tenneson Woolf and Teresa Posakony on another Art of Hosting. And if you are coming to Utah to be with us, you may well find yourself wrapped in this inquiry as well! Taking an inquiry into this one about the dynamics and the work of co-hosting. Utah Creates Social Media Guidelines for Employees Who Blog, Tweet, Etc. Here is the third in a new series of posts that provide access to my favorite tweets that contain links to useful information.    Some of these I did to link to things I found useful and others are RTs that I want to save for the same reason. A Study of Social Media Addiction from Retrevo

Portals and KM

Some organization like the state government in Utah have recognized these trends and acted proactively by creating guidelines that encouraged appropriate use. On this blog I have asked if social media is like taking a nap , going to the water cooler , or going out for a smoke ?   Here is a study from Retrevo that asks a different question: Is Social Media the New Cigarette? It other words, it looked at social media addiction and found a lot.

Fierce design

Chris Corrigan

A lovely day of design with friends in Lindon Utah. In most Art of Hosting type events, the substantive design work happens in the days just before the event, when the hosting team can finally be physically together, when we can read over the “getting to know you” answers from participants and when we can sink into a deeper space of good working relationship and creative planning.

Wild travel

I am teaching a lot, on Art of Hosting teams in BC, Ontario, and next year Ireland and Utah. Back in transit after two weeks on the road. I had two short nights and a day at home to recharge, see the kids, take in the Vancouver Whitecaps BC Place opener against Portland and try to kick this cold/cough. Things are busy right now.
