Moving Beyond “Collaboration” Meaning Video and Calling: Cisco Partners with Jive

Michael Sampson - Currents

Clearly the ESN suite never gained as much traction in the market as Cisco expected it to, so the company is pulling its horse from this race, where competition is broad and intense among vendors like Microsoft with Yammer and Sharepoint; IBM with Connections; Tibco with Tibbr; and Zimbra with Telligent. When I first wrote the Seven Pillars of IT-Enabled Team Productivity (in 2005), I focused on the needs of collaborative teams from technology.

NewsGator Acquires Tomoye

Collaborative Thinking

The deal potentially places NewsGator in roughly the same category as Telligent except right now, I mostly see NewsGator/Tomoye as an intranet play - and perhaps as an extranet play down the road as SharePoint improves in that regard re: SP2010. Telligent still has stronger analytics, a consumer facing solution, and more experience in the community space than NewsGator.

Another week, another announcement: today, about our Social Business Technology Alliance program. With such a wide spectrum of social business needs, it's important to have the flexibility to solve the problem at hand and not shoe-horn an organization into an uncomfortable platform. I recently talked with both Telligent’s Rob Howard and CubeTree’s Carlin Wiegner, Ross Fubini, and Gita Gupta on this. Tom Davenport recently posted a nice piece, Why 1.5 Is Greater Than 2.0 , that discussed the benefits of mixing old and media.
