Problems with Evernote - Sluggishness

Michael Sampson - Currents

I really like Evernote - for it's cross-platform support (Mac, PC, and iPad especially), the cloud-based synchronization service, the tags across notebooks, and more. I have been using Evernote intensively for much of this year, and I think I'm hitting its limits - and far too soon for my liking. I only have 408 items across 6 Evernote notebooks. but it's becoming really sluggish. For example, I'm typing a sentence, finish typing the words, and Evernote is a few words behind.

Mobolize for SharePoint -- Browser-based Offline Access to SharePoint

Michael Sampson - Currents

The main differentiator is that Mobolize provides a browser-based online and offline experience, and claims to support all SharePoint content offline, with full synchronization when reconnecting to the SharePoint server. Users can open files on SharePoint when offline, edit them, and synchronization will happen automatically when they reconnect to the network. As I wrote in the 7 Pillars framework in 2005, offline access is still important for collaboration systems.

First Steps to Planning a MOOC

Jenny Connected

It has occurred to me to wonder whether just this one element of running a MOOC means that many groups who could really benefit from MOOC-like activities, such as charities, would not be able to afford to run synchronous sessions. This begs a second question – what would be the effect of not offering synchronous sessions in a MOOC? Are MOOCs reliant on synchronous sessions? Do synchronous sessions dominate to the detriment of other modes of learning in a MOOC?

Collaborative Thinking: Microsoft Announces FeedSync But Its Strategy Remains Un-Syncd

Collaborative Thinking

What I do believe is that we need to move away from feed synchronization being left up to individual vendors - so there is a clear need for a community-effort to standardize in this area (as mentioned by Sam Snell of IBM at the bottom of a blog post of the FeedSync topic). There is also the broader challenge of data synchronization (where tools like Groove and Notes have advanced replication engines that are unfortunately locked up inside those respective products).
