“When a team led by Jeffrey Zacks of Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, ran functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans on people reading a story or watching a movie, they found that the same brain regions that are active in real-life situations fire up when a fictitious character encounters an equivalent situation (Psychological Science, vol 20, p 989).

Complementary Roles of Tablets, Smart Phones, and Television

Portals and KM

I think that the old media organizations that recognize this will be winners and many already have such the PBS St. Louis affiliate, KETC, where my colleague Rob Paterson did some interesting work as they looked to integrate TV with social media. A recent article by Clayton Morris, Study Reveals Changing Role of iPads, Tablet PCs found that 70 percent of tablet owners and 68 percent of smart phone owners use their devices while watching television.

The Rising Need for Content Curation Skills and Capabilities.

Portals and KM

We saw this close in hand as the PBS St. Louis affiliate, KETC, made use of the Darwin Awareness Engine to monitor the news on immigration in the US.  Picking up on the theme from last week’s post, Tech Reporters Losing Control of the Story to Social Media, here was an interesting tweet that could a lot of play at SXSW.   @robinsloan The way to cover big news in 2011 is not "here's what happened."

Rob Paterson used the Awareness Engine as he acted as a content curator for the St. Louis community around the topic of immigration through their PBS station, KETC. My spell checker agrees but I am sure that Webster will add it soon.

Almost Time to Head Off

Michael Sampson - Currents

As per my trip schedule , I have stops in Santa Monica, Chicago, Atlanta, St Louis, Vienna, London, Copenhagen, Switzerland, and maybe Paris. It's almost time to bid farewell to New Zealand for a couple of weeks, and head to the US for a week of consulting and workshops, and then across to Europe for the same. What's the word for such travel? Grueling, I think. Anyway. I'm looking forward to meeting and speaking with many new people.
