Michael Sampson - Currents

At the ABS over the past 14 months, have been doing a large project on visual social communications - essentially Sametime integrated with boardroom systems. use lots of IBM tools - Lotus Notes, Sametime (including Sametime Gateway), Connections 3, Cisco Phone System, 31 video conferencing rooms (are very hard to schedule; are constantly used). Notes on BP304 The Way of the Social Dragon

Michael Sampson - Currents

Sametime Entry is also an entitlement. -. From inbox to Sametime - speed decision making, reduce travel and communications costs, accelerate business processes. - Carlos Casas and Kathy Mandelstein are talking about building a social community in your organization. My notes on the session: - want to focus on cultural change, more than introducing a social pilot. - why do social projects fail? Just because you build it they won't come, embedded habits, etc.

UC And ROI: IBM's Truth And Fiction Example

Collaborative Thinking

I caught a couple of blog posts on the IBM Keynote for UC ( Lotusphere Message: Yes There Is a UC ROI ) and then one on the Sametime blog (see below). On average - using suggested retail prices, it would cost approximately $450K to purchase 5000 Sametime licenses including maintenance, two hardware servers, pay someone to plan and install the software and servers, and pay an administrator to maintain the system. The Sametime Blog.

Enterprise Versions Of Twitter (updated)

Integration with Microsoft Communicator and IBM Sametime. For instance, can Microsoft exploit its acquisition of Parlano and deliver it as a Twitter-like service within OCS and can IBM expand Sametime to emulate the application behaviors of Twitter-like tools. There are several emerging (e.g., ESME, Laconica (open source), OraTweet (Oracle), SocialCast, Present.ly, and Yammer, etc.)

Adoption Strategies for Unified Communications

Michael Sampson - Currents

This included reading the literature on adoption activities for deployments of UC, interviewing organizations on the strategies they used to introduce new tools such as Microsoft Lync and IBM Sametime, and presenting the adoption strategies workshop in Europe with a UC emphasis. Anyone can join and ask a question on how to do a particular task in IBM Sametime, for example. During 2014 I expanded the scope of my adoption research to the unified communications (UC) area.

7 Pillars Analysis of IBM

Michael Sampson - Currents

Or should it be a persistent chat thread in Sametime? It is incumbent on IBM to simply the range of options, whether that is through technology rationalization, very clear guidelines on when to use what constructs vs another, or through offering seamless migration capabilities from one offering to another … so that what starts as a Sametime persistent chat can be transformed into a Quickr place; or what starts as an Activity in Connections can become a shared Notes database.

Can Starting with the Technology Be Business Aligned?

Michael Sampson - Currents

For example, consider the remote meeting capabilities in Microsoft Lync, IBM Sametime, GoToMeeting, and other similar tools. In the ideal (or perhaps idealistic) view of the world, the use of new collaboration tools and approaches is solely “driven by the business.” ” I believe there is a lot of validity in this approach, but I equally don’t believe it is the complete story.

Why Lotusphere 2009 Is Important

Collaborative Thinking

First, it was the Sametime team in 2007. Sametime 7.5 Yes, individual products are improving and individual teams behind those products are more energized (namely the Lotus Sametime and Connections teams) - but having a few products improve is not going to deliver the type of tipping point IBM needs in the market. Having a great Sametime product or a great Connections product in-and-of-itself is not going to disrupt Microsoft.
