Can Starting with the Technology Be Business Aligned?

Michael Sampson - Currents

For example, consider the remote meeting capabilities in Microsoft Lync, IBM Sametime, GoToMeeting, and other similar tools. In the ideal (or perhaps idealistic) view of the world, the use of new collaboration tools and approaches is solely “driven by the business.” ” I believe there is a lot of validity in this approach, but I equally don’t believe it is the complete story.

UC And ROI: Round2: IBM's Truth And Fiction Example

Collaborative Thinking

John Del Pizzo from the IBM Sametime team responded to my post - but, I'm not persuaded by the counter-arguments. . While our goal for the Lotusphere keynote was to provide concrete examples of how Sametime could pay for itself within a year, we did not set out to provide an exhaustive TCO model. And since you don't have to "rebuy" Sametime every year - maintenance fees are only 20% of the purchase price - the savings go up dramatically in the out years. The Sametime Blog.

7 Things You Should Know About Backchannel Communication

Elsua

I can’t remember the exact date when I first took part in a backchannel chat while participating in a virtual event; I guess it must have been a few years back when I first started making use of Lotus Sametime for group chats while at work, back in the early 2000s.

7 Pillars Analysis of IBM

Michael Sampson - Currents

Or should it be a persistent chat thread in Sametime? It is incumbent on IBM to simply the range of options, whether that is through technology rationalization, very clear guidelines on when to use what constructs vs another, or through offering seamless migration capabilities from one offering to another … so that what starts as a Sametime persistent chat can be transformed into a Quickr place; or what starts as an Activity in Connections can become a shared Notes database.

Lotus Sametime 3D. IBM announced the availability of Virtual Collaboration for Lotus Sametime, or a 3D edition of Sametime. Using Sametime 3D, people can select colleagues from their Lotus Sametime contact list, and then invite them to participate in a virtual meeting.

Why Lotusphere 2009 Is Important

Collaborative Thinking

First, it was the Sametime team in 2007. Sametime 7.5 Yes, individual products are improving and individual teams behind those products are more energized (namely the Lotus Sametime and Connections teams) - but having a few products improve is not going to deliver the type of tipping point IBM needs in the market. Having a great Sametime product or a great Connections product in-and-of-itself is not going to disrupt Microsoft.
