Roles for Educators in MOOCs

Jenny Connected

All the discussion questions were interesting and there was some overlap between threads, but for this post I would like to comment on some of the responses to Mike’s question: What are the appropriate roles for educators (in MOOCs)? It was recognised that MOOCs, with their massive numbers of learners have raised questions about who is the teacher in a MOOC, can anyone be a teacher, whose role is it to facilitate discourse, whose role is it to scaffold learning and so on.

Michael looks at fostering collaboration when you're the leader. In particular, he talks about the necessity of trust: " You will only be able to build collaboration if you create a climate of trust. The Community Manager Role

Teaching with technology: changing roles

Jenny Connected

My third question in this series (from the list I posted) is: How has your role changed as a result of working with technology? When I first started to work online (a number of years ago now), there was a marked and startling change in my role as a teacher. All this made me rethink my teaching role. So I think I might describe my change in role as having become a ‘backseat driver’ Tagged: education, elearning, learning, negotiation, pedagogy, teaching, technology.

Role of facilitation in disaster recovery

Viv Mcwaters

Back in 2006 BB (Before Blogging) I attended a training course for facilitators on the role of facilitation in disaster recovery. My views on disasters and the role of facilitation have been both reinforced and changed completely as I reflect on a two-day workshop I recently completed called “Facilitating Psycho-Social Reconstruction” – and I’ll come back to what that actually means in a moment. And I thought that the role of the facilitator began only after disasters.
