The sociable role of social reporters

Social Reporter

What are social reporters, and what do they do? I think we agreed that social reporters should be sociable – as in socially useful. Social Reporter. The Mindmap extended my idea that social reporting may be seen as a mix of making sense, joining up and helping out.

Making social reporting an OpenBusiness

Social Reporter

The UKgovcamp event on Saturday gave me a chance to extend social reporting practice by making interviews, and hosting a session, an integral part of an open research and ideas-generation process within a project. We’ll report that and develop the campaign for user-involvement promised in their earlier report on Directgov. I’ve reported over here on the interviews, the session, and the issues that came out of that.

Reporting Structure in IBM Connections

Michael Sampson - Currents

One of the long-standing features in IBM Connections (and previous editions that were called Lotus Connections) is the ability to view the reporting structure of your organization. For someone visiting your profile and trying to figure out where you "fit in," the reporting structure gives the answer. It shows who you report to, who they report to, who they report to, etc.,

Community reporting grows up with its own Institute

Social Reporter

Good to see another burst of energy from the Manchester-based People’s Voice Media , with the launch of their Institute of Community Reporters, and also a European Network for community reporters. In a news release Gary Copitch, PVM’s Chief Executive says: “We now have over 1000 reporters on the database from across the UK and a further 600 across Europe so it seems to make sense to develop the network and recognise the achievement of the reporters.”

An update on social reporting, including support from BIG

Social Reporter

A couple of things came together recently to re-convince me that “social reporting” is a useful banner under which to promote the blending of new and old media and skills for collaboration and social benefit. The biggest and most thoughtful bottom-up support for the idea, and a big contribution to its practice, has come from the Transition Network , where Charlotte Du Cann and Ed Mitchell are editing and producing a social reporting project. Traditional Media reporting on Social Media

Laurel Papworth- Social Network Strategy

There’s a wild ride at the moment as traditional media slogs it out with social media. Stories that are popular in online communities become mainstream media news. And well, celebrities made by traditional media bite back in social networks.

Do social reporters need to be accountability journalists too?

Social Reporter

My initial response was, we can leave that to all the other reporters. I can certainly see the role of community reporters in accountability journalism (though it will be tough without the backing of news organisations). Tags: journalism local social reporting
