Planning workshops

Viv Mcwaters

If there is one thing we have learnt about planning workshops is that the plan will not survive contact with the group. Plan by all means – it’s part of being well prepared. And be prepared to throw the plan away when faced with the reality of facilitating a complex system aka a group of people. Planning workshops is a post from: vivmcwaters.com.au. Planning an update, stay tuned!

Michelle Laurie

The year has flown by and I have been neglectful in writing, reflecting and sharing online. However, lots of interesting work has taken place, and shamefully I got caught up in the busy frenzy. On the positive, I was spending more time with people face to face and less time on my computer. Now its time to take a deep breath, consider some of the highlights and articulate these thoughts through my blog.

Chris Corrigan

It got me thinking this morning about some of the tools I use for planning these days. We have to be careful about the tools we employ because some are great for linear, predictive planning and others require us to work on challenges differently.

They often have features that get in the way of action planning that really matches the need of the organisation concerned. I have always been very cautious about KM Maturity Assessments. They carry a lot of assumptions about how KM should be implemented, that may not always be true for everybody. They can just be paper exercises to support a check-box mentality rather than supporting a real capability development.

Open Plan Offices: The Increased Noise Cancels the Collaborative Benefit

Michael Sampson - Currents

A new study published by the University of Sydney calls into question the value of open plan offices yet again. Open plan offices attract the highest levels of worker dissatisfaction, with cramped quarters, lack of privacy and noise topping the list of gripes, a large study has found. The findings: - around 67% of respondents work in open plan offices. workers in open plan offices have "considerably higher" levels of dissatisfaction rates than those in enclosed offices.

Planning. What is its value?

Viv Mcwaters

Sometimes I like to plan. I hear some of you say, regular readers who know my thoughts about planning: “I always knew she was a closet planner!&#. I like to plan how I will drive across Melbourne. I like to plan when I will have an annual holiday (because if I don’t block those dates out of my diary, it’ll never happen). I like to plan what I will cook for guests when they come over. While lots of people tend to focus on the positive side of finishing a PhD (which is, of course, a great achievement :) I feel more like the one who is just released from a prison. Finally you are free to make choices, but, after spending for so long in a solitary confinement you don’t really know who you are, what you can do, what is out there to choose from and where to start with.
