Last month I flew to San Francisco for a week of meetings. Some comments about San Francisco and the time there: 1. That was true for our three days of meetings in San Francisco too. We made good use of the collaboration and communication tools available to us to bridge the geographical divide, including a Surface Hub at Silverside HQ in Rotterdam, a couple of Surface Pro 4’s in San Francisco, and Skype for Business.

Can British cities learn from US ‘networked localism’? : RSA blogs

John Tropea - Delicious Collaboration

Can British cities learn from US ‘networked localism’? This process has been dubbed ‘networked localism’. So, for example, the Seattle Minimum Wage Task Force took evidence and exchanged ideas with city and business leaders from Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia and San Jose. This raises obvious questions about the scope for networked cities in Britain. Economic networking between cities needn’t just be about geographical agglomeration.

Collaborative Thinking

A couple of thoughts on the large scale Oracle OpenWorld Conference, which has a downtown San Francisco street closed, over 40,000 people in attendance and 1,700+ sessions. Collecting insights

Viv Mcwaters

There was a lot happening at the Applied Improvisation Network Conference in San Francisco. As well as the pre-planned sessions, and the open space offerings, the one-on-one and small group conversations, and the serendipitous moments, there was the Twitter and Facebook back channel, photos being posted on Flickr, videos being made, drawings made, and people blogging. I tried to capture a small slice of the whole conference using Storify.

An unexpected moment

Viv Mcwaters

Over many months I’d planned to attend this year’s Applied Improvisation Network Conference in San Francisco. I’d booked early to get the best price, organised flights and accommodation. Yet it was something completely unplanned, surprising, spontaneous and lucky that gave me goose bumps. This reminds me notice what’s going on around me. And to always be prepared to be surprised.
