Comment moderating

Collaborative Thinking

Just a quick note - I turned on moderation for comments just to reduce the amount of spam I have been getting lately on blog posts. For comments that have a normal looking name and are "on topic", you can expect those comments to show up, regardless of whether you agree with me or not - I'm just looking to reduce the noise. So if you are not something named "cheap calls", "excel training", "free essays" - then you pass the first test.

Members Shouldn’t Moderate Each Other

Managing Communities

photo credit: susivinh I’m a big believer in leaving moderation to moderators and in having a word with any member that attempts to act like a moderator. It happened even to me, as one of the moderators of the site, that I missed three responses to an initial summary I had written. ‘Ontwikkeling is verandering’ (‘Development is change’) is the name of the so called ‘beleidsdialoog’ of the Dutch Foreign Ministry. In this dialogue the ministry tries to get input of Dutch civil society organisations and other stakeholders who are related to development, like the private sector, scientists, other ministries, and individual persons.

Online comments need moderation, not "real names" - Media Criticism - Salon.com

Delicious/choconancy/online_community

This New York Times piece from Monday reflects a growing chorus of resentment among newspaper website managers against the "barroom brawl" atmosphere so many of them have ended up with in the comments sections on their sites. They blame anonymity. If only they could make people "sign their real names," surely the atmosphere would improve! This wish is a pipe dream.
