September Wrap-Up Community Builder Chat: Online, Offline, and Migration

Question 1 : asked about migrating a community from one tool to another, specifically from listservs to a website/forum. Simple Tips to Make Content Migration Less Painful - The Content Wall

Let's face it, content migration is notoriously hard and time-consuming. Justin is leading NCSHA's current content migration to a new web site that we've been helping them build. He had created "The Content Wall" - a central place in the office to help coordinate content editors during the migration process. He printed the titles of each of those and handed them out to the content editors responsible for their updating and migration.

When employees received their Office update and especially when they were migrated from Lotus Notes to Outlook, the change agents were there to answer questions. They were available to answer questions after the initial migration, and will be used going forward as the new tools translate into new approaches. Merck has almost finished an 11 month transition to Office 365 from various older Microsoft products and messaging and collaboration tools from other vendors (e.g., IBM, WebEx).

What was less good was that the technology underpinning all that work has been discontinued by the vendor (Cisco Social / Cisco Quad), with no migration path to anything else from that vendor (although the vendor has partnered with Jive).
