Traction Team Page has also recently incorporated microblogging into their wiki-based platform. There seems to be a lot of names floating around for what many people call Twitter for the enterprise. Of course Twitter is not for the enterprise any more than Facebook is for the use inside the firewall. While these consumer web tools can be used by business people for public social networking, they lack the features for business applications.

I recently read an interesting study by my friend Kate Ehrlich at IBM and her colleague Sadat Shami, It is titled, Microblogging Inside and Outside the Workplace and looks at how corporate employees use microblogging tools. We need more research like this. This effort conducted a content analysis comparing over 5,000 posts between March and June 2009 from individuals who were using an internal IBM proprietary tool, Blue Twit, and Twitter simultaneously.
