Here is some more information I found via the Darwin Enterprise Social Media Edition though a post on Best Social Media Stats, Facts and Marketing Research of 2010.    The Nielsen Company provides research that indicates Americans spend a third their online time (36 percent) communicating and networking across social networks, blogs, personal email and instant messaging. I would be pleased to see research on this but I am hopeful.

The Enduring Nature of Blogs and Blogging

In 2010 50% of the Inc. 500 had a corporate blog, up from 45% in 2009 and 39% in 2008.    Now in 2011, the use of blogging dropped to 37%. In contrast, they found, in a related study that blogs continued at the same 23% level in Fortune 500 companies.

YouTube Attempts to Increase Time on Site Through Discovery

The New York Times had an interesting article, YouTube’s Quest to Suggest More , that covered their goal to have people stay longer on the site which would increase ad revenue. Compared to other Web sites with similar content (or really almost any Web site) they are way ahead.

For example, with blogs, the 2007 some research showed that 8% of the Fortune 500 companies were blogging compared to 19% of the Inc. This research shows that social media continues to penetrate parts of the business world at a fast rate.
