Engineers without Fears

Apart from Open Publish there have been some other things going on - including two events around mobile technology. There were four speakers: Jason Collins from Alcatel-Lucent demoed some work with Georgia Tech. The second event was Mobile Monday (which was bloody packed). Two pressos here: Xumii - a mobile social network site aggregator aimed at Gen Ys. We learnt that mobile will be big (no * sherlock) and that Google have some creepy ads for SMS Search.

My Reflections on the Mobile World Congress

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) last week in Barcelona reminded me of the early days of Comdex. I was honored to serve as a judge for the Mobile World Congress 2011 16th annual Global Mobile Awards in the category of Best mLearning Innovation. This is the first time that mobile learning has been recognized. The winner was Urban Planet Mobile from Savannah, Georgia, for their mobile English learning initiative.

Improvements in geolocation, bandwidth, mobile devices and APIs are the foundation of this feeling that a useful Augmented Reality may be more realistic today than ever before.
