Metadata without relationships doesn’t spin any wheels, and many of the relationships that metadata needs to capture will look suspiciously hierarchy-like. As I worked as a taxonomist for 10+ years, it’s a shame we never met and shared a civilized cup of tea. As for challenges, I think there are more substantive ones we can focus on, based on a more accurate representation of what taxonomy work and metadata work involve and the relationships between them.
