RIM BlackBerry World

Michael Sampson - Currents

Research In Motion hosted BlackBerry World 2011 this past week, in Florida. As an avid BlackBerry user, while I didn't attend, I was interested in the following: 1. The new BlackBerry Bold smartphones , that combine a keyboard and a touch-sensitive display. I remain a firm believer in the power of a real keyboard on a smartphone, and I'm interested to see how this goes with the combination of the new display. A new video chat application for the PlayBook.

Remembering When I First Heard Elvis

Portals and KM

We were driving from New Orleans to Florida for a summer vacation to escape the heat. The music penetrated my daydreaming and it directed my thoughts to some of the run down hotels we saw on the road to Florida. I was thinking about Elvis the other day as I listened again to some of his early songs. He recorded his first song “That’s All Right” on July 5, 1954. The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll credits him as the first rock and roll star, which is a fair statement.

My Favorite Knowledge Management Story and its Lessons Learned for Today

Portals and KM

In fact, Ryder had to issue a disclaimer when one of the yellow Ryder trucks was on newspaper covers across the US hauling votes up to the Florida capital to be recounted in the last Presidential election. Knowledge management has been around for over twenty years now. I still feel it was the precursor to enterprise 2.0 and social business. It had its own precursors like performance support. Here is a story of its midpoint. It was my favorite project because of the people we worked with.

Remembering Ray Charles

Portals and KM

In 1947 he moved from Florida to Seattle and started as a singer in the Nat King Cole style. Yesterday, I wrote about Elvis so I need to give equal time to Ray today. It has been almost eight years since he passed. Ray was a major music figure during my high school years in the early 60s. We used to sing Ray Charles songs, like “ Georgia of My Mind ,” on the bus and his dance music, like “What’d I Say,” got top play at parties.
