We attended two days of this year’s edition of Juke Joint Festival in Clarksldae, MS. The event describes itslef as “half blues festival, half small-town fair and all about the Delta."  There was a full pre-festival event on Friday.

Saturday April 11 was the official day of the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksldae, MS. It was our second day on site. Our second day ended like the first, with the best act.

The other growth area is festivals. White Night festivals, Burning Man , music festivals, Mardi Gras, street parties, comedy festivals, Improv Everywhere and all manner of flash mobs. You don’t need me to tell you the difference between conferences and festivals.

Every year the weekend before Thanksgiving brings us two great free festivals, Cops2 Blues and Oak Street Poboy. This year we saw Jon Cleary do his solo act of old school New Orleans R&B at the Cops 2 Festival on Saturday November 21.

Second Annual Fess Festival at Tipitina's New Orleans December 2011

I drove to New Orleans from seeing Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie at Whiskey Landing in Henderson and went directly to a festival of local musicians at Tipitina's. It was the second annual Fess Festival.

I have gone to the last three Onset Bay Blues Festivals and greatly enjoyed them. I again attended the 2009 festival on August 1. It was great as always. The closer was Gina Sicilia , a powerful young blues singer from Philly. She was wonderful. the best closer I have seen at Onset. She has the potential to be a national star. I especially liked her performance of Try Me

Onset Blues Festival 2009: Ricky King Russell

I have gone to the last three Onset Bay Blues Festivals and greatly enjoyed them. I again attended the 2009 festival on August 1. It was great as always. The second act was Ricky King Russell who I have seen many times. Once at the now closed Onset Bay Blues Cafe he did a nice request for me, Otis Redding's That's How Strong My Love Is. He was great as always. He is based on Cape Cod. Ricky is in the second photo from the left

As I have been posting, I have gone to the last three Onset Bay Blues Festivals and again attended the 2009 festival on August 1. It was great as always. I stayed at the Point Independence Inn looking out at a small island in Onset Bay. I could watch the changing light all day as I did again

Painting of Creole Tomatoes - New Orleans

Every June there is a Creole Tomato festival in New Orleans at the French Market. Here is a 16" x 20" painting of Creole Tomatoes, a species grown in Louisiana. I now an artist with the  Arts Council of New Orleans  and participate in their  monthy art market.

Steamers and Fried Clams at Captain Al's Tiki Bar Buzzard's Bay MA

when I was at the Onset Blues Festival. Then I had clam fritters at the blues festival but forgot to take a picture.  I had two great lunches at Captain Al's Tiki Bar in Buzzard's Bay MA. I highly recommend it for fresh seafood on an outdoor deck over looking the bay. First there were the steamers. with onion rings, and butter for dipping. The next day was fried clams. with rings, of course.
