Clarksdale Blues Festival: Day One

We attended two days of this year’s edition of Juke Joint Festival in Clarksldae, MS. The event describes itslef as “half blues festival, half small-town fair and all about the Delta."  There was a full pre-festival event on Friday.

Saturday April 11 was the official day of the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksldae, MS. It was our second day on site. Our second day ended like the first, with the best act.

Highlights of Festival Acadian 2013: Sunday

Here is part two of my first Festival Acadian , three days of three nights and two days of some of the best Cajun and Zydeco players in Girard Park in Lafayette, LA on Friday October 11 through Sunday October 13. They did a great job of closing out the festival.

Onset Blues Festival 2009: Gina Sicilia

I have gone to the last three Onset Bay Blues Festivals and greatly enjoyed them. I again attended the 2009 festival on August 1. It was great as always. The closer was Gina Sicilia , a powerful young blues singer from Philly. She was wonderful. the best closer I have seen at Onset. She has the potential to be a national star. I especially liked her performance of Try Me

Second Annual Fess Festival at Tipitina's New Orleans December 2011

I drove to New Orleans from seeing Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie at Whiskey Landing in Henderson and went directly to a festival of local musicians at Tipitina's. It was the second annual Fess Festival.

The second act was Ricky King Russell who I have seen many times. Once at the now closed Onset Bay Blues Cafe he did a nice request for me, Otis Redding's That's How Strong My Love Is. He was great as always. He is based on Cape Cod. Ricky is in the second photo from the left

Every June there is a Creole Tomato festival in New Orleans at the French Market. Here is a 16" x 20" painting of Creole Tomatoes, a species grown in Louisiana. I now an artist with the  Arts Council of New Orleans  and participate in their  monthy art market.

In India they are taken to festivals at a distance from their villages and left there. I came across this appalling phenomenon for the first time yesterday. I was discussing the care of the elderly with a friend who told me that ‘granny dumping’ is becoming increasingly common in India.
