PLUME: five principles of harvesting

Chris Corrigan

This morning we began our Harvesting and Collective Sensemaking online course. Specifically these principles apply to harvesting in complex situations where you are using participatory methods to make sense of and make decisions. And what if collective learning WAS the harvest?

Evaluation rigour for harvesting

Chris Corrigan

In Art of Hosting terms, we might call this a harvesting plan. I think in the Art of Hosting and Art of Harvesting communities we get the first principle quite well, that participatory initiatives are, by their nature, developmental.

The #OCE2012 Harvest

Michelle Laurie

A few weeks ago I co-designed/facilitated a learning event for BC Campus called “ The Online Community Enthusiasts Gathering “ This is an annual gathering of interesting people mostly from the Lower Mainland/Vancouver Island. Previous themes have included stewarding online communities and planning events. I learned a lot during the day and I am glad it’s continuing with the harvest. How do we document, share and foster ongoing learning?

Polarities to help design harvesting

Chris Corrigan

Yesterday in a webinar for the Art of Hosting Applied Practice cohort I threw out a set of ideas around harvesting that were prompted a bit by experience and a bit by the questions that participants were asking. But without planning for these results, we can get meetings that are unclear in their purpose or unclear in their function and the results are alos unclear. ” The act of paying attention to that is called “harvesting.” Art of Harvesting

Inappropriate action planning makes me sad

Chris Corrigan

And no action plans, no next steps, no commitments, no necessary reports. A few months later there was a harvest document lovingly stewarded by a few people. And sometimes, there are gatherings where next steps and action plans are important and necessary and are the reason why we are gathering. Strategic planning using the World Cafe and Open Space

Chris Corrigan

Today John Inman had a great post on using the world cafe for a five hour strategic planning session with a non-profit. Harvested main themes in group. Assign teams to develop tactical plans to address opportunities. Developed the values for the non-profit from this harvest. It was the most productive planning session I have ever had and I believe that is in no small part due to driving them into conversation early and the power of conversation transformed the session.

Understanding where you are, not where you think you are: some tips and a process

How chaordic design unfolds

Chris Corrigan

This is a pretty geeky Art of Hosting map, but essentially it describes the way planning unfolds in practice. The chaordic stepping stones is a tool I use to do a lot of planning.
