Emergent Learning from thinking about Emergent Learning

On Tuesday of this week we ran our second webinar on Emergent Learning and Drawing Footprints of Emergence for the SCoPE community and any one else who wanted to attend. And drawing footprints of emergence requires a bit of effort – well more than a bit.

Questions about Emergent Learning

We had a great webinar on Emergent Learning on Tuesday, courtesy of Sylvia Currie and the SCoPE community at BCcampus. It’s really stimulating to discover others ‘out there’ who are as interested in emergent learning as we are. Doesn’t emergent learning happen all the time?

Describing open learning environments and emergent learning

Jenny Connected

Recent work on developing our framework for describing emergent learning (see Footprints of Emergence and Emergent Learning and Learning Ecologies in Web 2.0 ) has been taxing our powers of description. This ongoing work in seeking to describe and clarify what we mean by emergent and prescribed learning is progressing on our open wiki ‘ Footprints of Emergence ’. Does this invalidate the process or the framework?

Focus on the Process - The "Why" Not the "What" for Social Software

Michael Sampson - Currents

Jordan at Traction Software reviews the recent Deloitte study and my User Adoption book , and comments: " When you focus on the "why," people stop looking at the platform as a "blog" or "social" system but rather as a work-process system. They take it more seriously and part of their daily work, rather than a destination to only enjoy and engage in when they have a (very rare) free cycle. The patterns that take over become hardened and information infrastructure starts to take root.
