OLDSMOOC Design

Jenny Connected

There is a lot of activity in the Google group discussion forums and on Cloudworks. The next stage is for people to team up and work on design projects together, which might be difficult for those who have entered the MOOC as individuals rather than as a team, or alongside colleagues. Does this MOOC need the amount of prescription that is a significant part of its design? the basic MOOC is ok for CPD, but still needs some good learning design.

Re-Thinking Follow Models Within The Enterprise

Collaborative Thinking

Past incarnations however were perhaps so subtle and housed within a particular use case scenario or application context, that we never really thought about how the model could be leveraged in a very broad and compelling manner. Social network sites ( defined by boyd and Ellison for consumer sites in 2007 and extended by myself (while at Burton Group) to apply to enterprise sites in 2008 ), were instrumental in making follow models more prominent.

Design of the course. I like the course design and the fact that Stephen Downes ‘walks the talk’ and has been true to his educational philosophy as expounded in his theory of connectivism. It is calmer and more manageable than discussion forums, although there are no discussion forums in this course. This fits with his belief that the role of the teacher is to model and demonstrate. el30 cMOOC community course design stephen downes
