Prior to the release I spoke with Bill Arconati, Confluence Product Marketing Manager. I got a good background on the evolution of Altassian as well as preview of Confluence 3.0. As a disclosure, one of my business partners, Helix Commerce, is a Canadian reseller of Confluence but I have no direct Atlassian connection. In 2004 their wiki product, Confluence, was released. Confluence comes in both on-premise and hosted versions. With Confluence 3.0

Atlassian Announces Confluence 3.0. The Q3 2009 Forrester Wave™: Collaboration Platforms by Rob Koplowitz is out. It found that “Microsoft and IBM Lotus led the pack based on the breadth of functionality in their offerings. Novell edged into the Leaders’ quadrant with its Teaming product. MindTouch, the only open source option in this Forrester Wave, landed as a Strong Performer. Open Text represented a strong option, particularly for current Open Text ECM Suite customers.

Atlassian Confluence for Learning. Atlassian Confluence is good for social learning. Atlassian today announced that its advanced enterprise wiki Confluence was named “Best Social Learning Tool” by Elearning! Confluence beat out Ning and Facebook to win the award.

It seems like all the enterprise collaboration platforms are adding more features to become a suite. Th emor eI talk to the more they are developing a similar comprehensive suite. This is not a bad thing, It validates the market an these features. One of the key elements is the addition of micro-blogging or micro-messaging.
