I have noticed that even most small vacation inns have free wifi as a standard offering. Mobile apps must be delivered as a cloud service. The solution is cloud suppliers with data centers around the world and points of presence in every major city. The cloud is simply better for delivering good mobile app experiences. Mobile collaboration is an increasingly important topic as two-thirds of the information workforce already work remotely, according to Forrester data.

Via 3G or WiFi. Photo Transfer – Transfer your iPad (or iPhone) photos to your computer (if your computer and iPad/iPhone are on the same WiFi network) without having to go through iTunes/iPhoto. Every time anything goes in those folders, it’s backed up to the cloud. As my friends, colleagues, and random strangers have learned, I love apps. I have tested, played, installed/uninstalled a metric ton of apps of various sorts.

As delegates entered this information as part of their profiles, this gathered two ‘tag clouds’ which reflected the interests of the attendees and gave them a natural route to finding eachother. Each of the first two was made possible - or certainly easier - by having a wifi connection.

Online Educa Berlin 2010 Keynote: Building Networked Learning Environments


While we have cheap or free network access in the UK through local libraries, UK online Centres, schools, public wifi provision and internet cafes, personal device ownership and any time access are still salient points. I was delighted to be invited to keynote at Online Educa Berlin 2010 - one of the world’s foremost e-learning events, which this year attracted well over 2000 learning and training professionals from over 100 countries.
