Portals and KM

I recently attended the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium for the second time. The site describes it as an event “where CIOs and other senior business executives from around the world gather to explore how leading-edge academic research and innovative technologies can help address the practical challenges faced in today's changing economy.”. sounds a bit like mashups to me – and they said this later). It is an annual one-day conference, held on the MIT campus.

is “ IT without the CIO ”. It seems like you think users don’t need a CIO and that they can do just fine developing their own applications – given the right tools. I think the CIO job is safe for a good few years yet though. there will always be a very important role for the CIO and the IT team. Instead of being in charge of a hiarchy of defined solutions, the CIO takes on the role of the standards used to govern interactions.
