Reflecting on a month in China

Jenny Connected

From October 8 th to November 2 nd , I was in China. We saw many of the highlights that tourists hope to see (in fact our trip was organized by China Highlights) – the Forbidden City in Beijing, The Great Wall, The Terracotta Warriors in Xian, the three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River, and much much more, I am also aware that we barely scratched the surface of China’s wonders. Trying to use the internet in China is an interesting experience.

Online Community Report

Every significant issue that people care about -- education, environment, development, health -- is debated and shaped on blogs, message boards and social networking sites. But there is one glaring absence in this new global conversation: China. China blocks most international blogs, including any using popular blog services such as Wordpress or Blogger. China blocks any international URL with the word "blog" in it. But China isn't present.

Why Every Organization Needs a China Strategy

China is in the news a lot these days. Having spent the last year living in China, my view is that the “China story” is, in fact, under-reported. The world’s largest country is finally developing economically in a rapid and impactful way.

The Faces of International Development

The Society for International Development has done it again! Earlier this month, I attended their tremendous annual conference with notable and unforgettable speakers that make you leave the glimmering chandeliers in DC's Omni Shoreham ballroom thinking to yourself, what more needs to be done in international development? The conference convened approximately 600 leaders and advocates for international development. Tags: International Development

Encouraging article in China Business News: " Telecommuting to solve Hubei’s carbon emissions problem." The National Development and Reform Commission selected Hubei, earlier this year, as one of the first group of bases in the country for low-carbon pilot tests.
