Technology: wikis, organisations and efficiency

John Barben posted this excerpt from Business Week on wikis. Probably in the short run it is (and changing habits is energy-consuming as well). At a small scale we are experimenting with wikis and social bookmarking.

Will Tools Like Twitter Change the Ways We Work With Flows of Information and Knowledge ?

Green Chameleon

The KMWorld 2008 conference was interesting (FAST had an exhibitor’s booth) and the contrast with last year in terms of the tangible interest in and take-up of social computing tools was evident. It works … for example, late last night I twittered a response to one of Jeremiah Owyang’s tweets pointing to his recent blog post about " What’s After The Social Web? ", Here’s Stuart’s post: Social Media or KM / KM or Social Media.

Introducting social media in organisations to improve the learning function is more difficult than you may think.

Joitske Hulsebosch

For some time now, I have an evaluation report of an organization that has experience with the introduction of social media (like wikis and blog) in the organization since 2009. The report is very interesting, because it shows that the actual practice of changing habits in organisations is very hard! They allowed me to blog about it and I think it has some valuable lessons like shape such a process as a real change trajectory (I'm personally convinced about this).

Intranet managers should not only incorporate UC tools -- video, wikis, blogs, micro-blogs, social networking, social bookmarking, document sharing -- into their intranets, they should also discourage practices that "undermine" the intranet, according to Toby Ward, CEO of Prescient Digital Media, a Toronto-based intranet consultancy. The real importance of Google Wave is how it will change where people do their work, and how that, in turn, will impact Microsoft.
