PLUME: five principles of harvesting

Chris Corrigan

This morning we began our Harvesting and Collective Sensemaking online course. Specifically these principles apply to harvesting in complex situations where you are using participatory methods to make sense of and make decisions. And what if collective learning WAS the harvest?

Evaluation rigour for harvesting

Chris Corrigan

In Art of Hosting terms, we might call this a harvesting plan. I think in the Art of Hosting and Art of Harvesting communities we get the first principle quite well, that participatory initiatives are, by their nature, developmental. They evolve and change and engage emergence.

The Harvest: After Event Reflections

Nancy White

Harvest time. The harvest. Reflection is a form of harvest. I wanted to point out some examples of how people have shared out their harvest on blogs, tweets, and other social media to create external value. How can this “harvest&# feed, rather than rot in a pile?

Some recent harvests

Chris Corrigan

So a little time to breathe and reflect on a couple of harvests. Second, a harvest poem from the Open Space I ran yesterday in Kelowna. With Open Space these days I am trying as much as possible to have a place in which a meta harvest can be collected and created. Most often this looks like a graphic recorder who gathers materials and snippets from the sessions and co-creates a harvest with session conveners and participants. How do we face change while staying true.

A collective harvest of the four fold practice

Chris Corrigan

Here is a snippet of the harvest from our work this week: Presensing and hosting yourself. be clear about the purpose of and the intended harvest of a conversation. Change must come from the margins of the system, sustained by a core that is willing to co-create. Art of Hosting Facilitation PracticeThe last couple of weeks my deepening of perspective on the four fold practice of the art of hosting has continued.

Understanding where you are, not where you think you are: some tips and a process

A recent report by Strategy& suggests being more agile requires a clear focus on two attributes of ‘strategic responsiveness’ and ‘organizational flexibility’ being built into the design of the larger organizations so they can move far quicker as conditions change.

The curse of predetermining outcomes

Chris Corrigan

Entraining your mind to outcomes is the hardest practice to beat as a facilitator working in complexity. It will shape your process, and cause you to harvest only what you are looking for, missing out on the juiciest, most powerful places of potential in a system.

Simple meeting design

Chris Corrigan

Exploring future possibilities by mapping “dispositionalities”

Chris Corrigan

Today he’s discussing “ dispositionality ” which simply means that making change in a system is much easier when you have a sense of what the system is pre-disposed to do (and what it is NOT pre-disposed to do…). The five principles that Dave articulated today were very much embedded in our work and they are becoming very much the basis for any change and planning work I do. We began with a World Cafe design based on small stories of change.

Basic design for extraordinary conversations

Chris Corrigan

This is often when those of us who are consulting facilitators are brought into an organization. Unless we are involved in deep systemic change – where the banks of the river change as it were – our work is about diverting some time and attention from the mainstream.
