Hopefully, the Review is somewhat related to an eventual Thesis so I've tried to pull together some thoughts on how to improve work practices in times of change (explained below). Improving Work Practices in Times of Change.

Consumer No More: How the Web Changes Us

Alchemy of Change

The web has changed a lot of things about the way we consume media. It’s flipped our primary communications infrastructure from a one-way, to a two-way flow of information – and that change in the way we communicate is redefining who we are.

It is a good model to use when you're dealing with a change in which technology plays a role. The rider of the elephant does not know which way to go to if there is no clarity what the intended change is and what effect the change should provide. We organized a teamhackathon.

Social media for public services: how about an Open Innovation Exchange?

Social Reporter

I came away with a new/old idea: that we need an open innovation exchange to help entrepreneurs, councils and customer/citizens collaborate to find new ways forward. You might find one council officer prepared to take an interest, but they would change jobs. During the Crowdsourced Council event these ideas crystalised into thoughts of an Open Innovation Exchange. Let’s model the collaborative exchange process we propose.

Introducting social media in organisations to improve the learning function is more difficult than you may think.

Joitske Hulsebosch

The report is very interesting, because it shows that the actual practice of changing habits in organisations is very hard! They allowed me to blog about it and I think it has some valuable lessons like shape such a process as a real change trajectory (I'm personally convinced about this). An example: a team had to develop a new program and proposed to use a wiki, as the place for the exchange of all documents, presentations and photos.

What can knowledge interventions contribute to development?

Joitske Hulsebosch

Or if you'd like to call this knowledge too, then I would like to clearly distinguish it from 'actionable knowledge', knowledge that leads to changing practices. A lot of research never gets transformed into changing realities. I explained my vision that in my idea the counterpart model in development (the northern expert working with a southern person for a longer period of time) has disappeared because it is not how people learn and change happens.

She wrote an article for the rural development news from Agridea with the title: social media- changing the world from the edge? An important mindset of people participating in the online exchange in social media is to be comfortable with having intimate conversations in public spaces. I tend to believe that social media will change learning processes of professionals in organisations and allow for more cross-fertilization of ideas.

Office 365 in 2016 – More Stability? #office365

Michael Sampson - Currents

Tony’s comments in Predicting the world of Exchange in 2016 about the cadence of updates to Office 365 caught my eye, as he expresses one of my concerns with the offering: I expect Microsoft will throttle back the number of changes introduced into Office 365 during 2016. At least, I hope that they do because it’s really hard for tenant administrators and others to cope with a cadence like the 450-odd changes Microsoft said they made during the year to August 2015.

Re-Inventing Collaboration: CRM as Social Technology

Alchemy of Change

Social technologies change the way we collaborate. But to be actionable, that database of people needs to enable those people to connect with each other – and that’s exactly what mail servers like Microsoft Exchange did. It may eventually need to change its name to simply RM – Relationship Management.
