The Selfish Blogger – A discussion :-)

there has actually been some discussion about The Selfish Blogger Syndrome, which I would like to respond to with this post. And Alan: I do think that postings in small isolated blogs *can* be integrated into larger discussions. And I would go further to add that if we believe in open, networked learning then we *should* strive to make that integration as effective as possible. Its ironic that having said that I don’t see blogs as a discussion tool…. “I

Blogging for knowledge workers: incubating ideas

One of them was writing two articles on blogging for Dutch magazine Informatie Professional – on weblog as an instrument to develop ideas and as a networking tool. However, having a vision and installing blogging software is not enough: getting blogging to work in an organisation means helping potential bloggers to find out how weblogs might be useful for them personally and how to sustain blogging in a long-term. New ideas need time to develop. Integration

Blogs as boundary objects

While blogging might provide a window onto practices of the blogger, on a surface weblog is just an artefact: text, links and bits of other media. The creation and management of boundary objects is key in developing and maintaining coherence across intersecting social worlds.

What pragmatists might want to know about blogging

Uses of a weblog for conversations with self are up to an individual blogger: a weblog can serve as a tool to collect personally relevant notes and organise them in a variety of ways; this collection then provides an input for reflection and reuse. On the other hand, weblogs could be also used for an in-depth interaction with others, allowing to build relations and trust and to develop ideas in dialogue with one’s contacts. Integration

Blog as a nexus of multimembership and accidental brokering

While to an extend weblogs do represent bloggers behind them and are often perceived as their online identities, studies presented in my dissertation also indicate that blogging involves many challenges of dealing with different audiences that a weblog serves (the results of blog networking study provide examples of both ). It requires enough legitimacy to influence the development of a practice, mobilize attention, and address conflicting interests. Integration
