Reflections from 2011 – And Health It Is!

Elsua

Around this time of the year, last year, I put together a blog entry over here under the suggestive heading of “ Three Wishes “, where I tried to reflect, once again, and like I have been doing for the last few years, on what I would want to accomplish in the New Year.

Reflections from 2011 – Redefining Your Social Web Presence

Elsua

After having put together last couple of blog posts about some of my reflections from the year we are about to end around The Social Web and Technology in general, I guess it’s now a good time to share with the world the third one from the series.

The Principled Approach

e-Moderation Station

The process approach to writing was supported by blogging groups and/or blogging ´buddies’ working in pairs for feedback, editing and redrafting. They seem particularly well suited to the process approach to writing. Tired of hearing that technology brings nothing to the classroom?

Integrating Transactions and Interactions: A Fable

Portals and KM

In the last two days, I wrote about: Integrating the Interactions with the Transactions, and Maybe Enterprise 2.0 I this post I want to share an example of an early success with this type of integration using old school tools. This approach was new, as the people had never been asked this question. News of the new approach spread quickly through the rumor mill and the new IT system got a lot of good press.

Reflections on Community Manager Appreciation Day

Online Community Strategy

My key hopes for next year (#CMAD 2013): That there is a more integrated approach to Community-building, as part of most organization’s social business efforts. Today was the third annual Community Manager’s Appreciation Day, or #CMAD. The intention of #CMAD is to raise awareness about the role of the Community Manager, and to recognize the hard working women and men who support this role for their organizations.

2014, The Year That Was

Elsua

I thought what a better way to resume my blogging mojo than perhaps put together this article where I can reflect on a rather personal account of what has happened month by month sharing some of the highlights (and lowlights!) Reflection month.

Conversations With a Wonderful Client

Full Circle Associates

As a wrap up to some work last year, Simone Staiger of CIAT and I decided to do a little text based conversational reflection on the work we did. Wow, that you will a) take the time for reflective and action oriented conversations and, b) pay me for it is WONDERFUL.

Appreciative Inquiry and Knowledge Management? No problem.

Chris Collison

The video below sums it up nicely when he describes the conventional approach to improvement as viewing the organisation a “problem to be solved” –and how over time, a problem-resolution mindset can sap energy, goodwill and enthusiasm from the workforce.

Getting Ready for Exploratory Interviews: Balancing Preparedness with Open Ears

Michael Sampson - Currents

I read these, integrated the ideas, and developed a master list of activities. Reflecting on what is / isn’t working well. I took lots of notes during the interviews, and once all of the interviews were completed, integrated my findings and discoveries into that list of inferences.

Academic BEtreat – the technical challenges

Jenny Connected

One of the principles of these BEtreats is that online and face-to-face participants should be fully integrated, so for the most part the online people are projected into the face-to-face room through video on Adobe Connect – where presentations can also be shared. We have been told that this BEtreat is trying to ‘push the boat out’ to explore the challenges of integrating online and face-to-face participation in a course and I think we all recognise hw ambitious this programme is.

Using Machine Learning to Help Process Email – Microsoft Adds Clutter to Declutter the Inbox

The Clutter experience is personalized to each individual and reflects an email experience that adapts to your actions and preferences without you having to do anything. A few reflections about the idea: 1. Microsoft is getting very Apple-esque in its approach to releasing things.

Industrialisation of Social Networking for the Enterprise

Why do we have to keep up with that constant urge towards busyness (and bursting online activity) vs. pause, reflection and adding relevant value where it may apply into the overall conversation? Or, to put it in other words, automation of your social networking presence.

The Selfish Blogger – A discussion :-)

Jenny Connected

On reflection I find blogging just a bit too distant for discussion. I value it for reflection and thinking things through, but for me discussion – in the deeper sense – happens in smaller more intimate groups away from the public arena. Tony wrote: What’s for sure is that you can’t just apply good learning management system approaches to the looser structure of a MOOC. And Alan: I do think that postings in small isolated blogs *can* be integrated into larger discussions.

SCoPE Seminar: Digital Badges Implementation

Jenny Connected

I have been reflecting on why. Maybe those involved in designing and implementing badges have already been through the questions which remain for me; questions about the credibility of these badges, their value, their integrity, their status, what they represent, who they represent and so on. So I still wonder whether the badge system will promote the ‘completion of tasks’ approach to learning, more than a focus on developing a depth of understanding.

Binding affordances and GIS in hybrid places

Taming the spaces

Modeling places with affordances integrates cognitive and engineering aspects, therefore leading to a knowledge-representation that comes closer to the user. The integration of affordance-based models of places into future GIS will lead to a better communication between users and systems. The concept of place has to integrate both its location and its meaning in the context of human action.
