social software measurement as asymmetric warfare

Engineers without Fears

If you compare Twitter to TV using TV's metrics then TV is probably going to win. TV's metrics have coevolved with the medium over decades. Social software is interactive - you'd expect that cross-selling/up-selling metrics might be relevant here.

Reality Check 2.0

Collaborative Thinking

This emphasis on a realistic approach towards solutions driven by social software should not be an excuse for IT organizations to protect vendors they are comfortable with - this crisis could easily become a situation where IT groups leverage "cost reduction", "infrastructure overlap", and "integration complexity" as excuses to get rid of smaller vendors and retreat into comfort zones with platforms they identify with to a greater degree than the business areas they support.

Productivity in a Networked Era – Assessing ROII (Return on Investment in Interaction)

John Tropea - Delicious Community

In an environment of continuous flow and interaction, there’s a need to consider an emerging metric: return on investment in interaction (ROII). In a June 2008 “The Network Thinker” blog post, social networking pioneer Valdis Krebs outlined four generic metrics that are becoming widely accepted as leading to observable, tangible measurable outputs: • Increase in size of network. . Network returns are asymmetric, so simplistic count-’em-up approaches are no longer viable.

What does it take to make real social innovation?

Chris Corrigan

Successful social entrepreneurs create business models where measurement is integral to the normal course of solving a challenge. Increasingly, CEOs of charities are being hired from traditional business schools and they don’t even have the range of experience or innovative approach that social enterprise CEOs have. Alongside the management approach to services and the constraints on funding comes a slavish amount of accountability to targets.
