Integrating Transactions and Interactions: A Fable

Portals and KM

In the last two days, I wrote about: Integrating the Interactions with the Transactions, and Maybe Enterprise 2.0 I this post I want to share an example of an early success with this type of integration using old school tools. This was the system of engagement and interactions. This approach was new, as the people had never been asked this question. News of the new approach spread quickly through the rumor mill and the new IT system got a lot of good press.

The Principled Approach 2

But research studies aside, the million dollar questions for teachers are: How do I to integrate technology into my classroom? Most classrooms had IWBs (Interactive Whiteboards), but teachers were having difficulty moving away from a teacher-centred lecture approach with these.

The Principled Approach

The process approach to writing was supported by blogging groups and/or blogging ´buddies’ working in pairs for feedback, editing and redrafting. They seem particularly well suited to the process approach to writing. Tired of hearing that technology brings nothing to the classroom?

Enterprise Micro-Messaging: Standalone or Integrated with Comprehensive Collaboration Platform? Or Both?

Portals and KM

Here is a post on the collaboration platforms that are integrating micro-messaging. Is there a role of both approaches in parallel with different functions? 10 Strategies for Integrating Learning and Work (part 2)

Delicious/choconancy/communities_of_practice

In my last post I listed ten strategies for integrating learning with work. 10 STRATEGIES FOR INTEGRATING LEARNING AND WORK. Unlike performance support tools, they are grounded in the communication and interaction between people as they solve shared problems. The primary interaction is between people rather than between people and a structured information system. I think the convergence is good for further integration of learning and working.

John Tropea - Delicious Community

Understandably, seasoned executives, chief learning officers among them, are having a devil of a time shifting from the industrial age mindset of logic, certainty and bounded constraints to the network gestalt of interaction, self-organization, unpredictability and fewer limits to potential. In an environment of continuous flow and interaction, there’s a need to consider an emerging metric: return on investment in interaction (ROII).

It starts from being present as a blogger, finding and observing others; then possibly engaging in an interaction that might grow into a relation. In analysing the conditions for those contacts and for emergent interaction in public spaces in a city he stresses the importance of edge zones: At the edge of the forest or near the façade, one is less exposed than if one is out in the middle of a space. Blogging can support various personal activities that do not require interaction.

Are We In A "Post E2.0 Era"?

Collaborative Thinking

Platforms are digital environments in which contributions and interactions are globally visible and persistent over time. Emergent means that the software is freeform, and that it contains mechanisms to let the patterns and structure inherent in people’s interactions become visible over time. While there were plenty of technology limitations, it’s important to historically note that today’s siren call to integrate social tools into business apps and processes is not a new idea.
