In 2003, the first iteration of a "platform mashup" occurred with SharePoint 2003 that joined Windows SharePoint Services (the evolution of STS) with portal. Forrester Discusses Barriers to Intranet Use and Suggestions to Get Better

They found that 93% of employee respondents said they use an intranet or company portal (Forrester uses the terms interchangeably) at least weekly, and more than half reported daily use.   Forrester wrote that the “symptoms of an ailing intranet are not hard to recognize: poor adoption, irritated users, failed tasks, and ingenious (but unproductive) workarounds in order to avoid the intranet altogether.”

Prescient Releases the Social Intranet Study

The findings indicate that there is rapid adoption of social media on the corporate intranet in the past year. Portal Solutions (e.g. Prescient Digital Media will be officially releasing their report on the Social Intranet Study at the Intranet Global Forum conference in NYC, Nov 9-10.
