Our we20 Meeting Report & Action Plan

Viv Mcwaters

We explored this challenge using a world cafe approach. Our Action Plan is all about CONNECTION and RESILIENCE. You can vote on our plan and read other plans at the we20 web site. Use an ‘open source’ approach to information, build it together and share openly, and operate from an ‘abundancy paradigm’. The actions will emerge as a consequence of us being re-charged and from meeting new people and having new stories to tell.

But recently I am wondering if this approach has backfired in unexpected ways. They intended to use the map for action planning but didn’t know how to develop actions out of the map. Is it as easy as child’s play? image by [link] ).

Open Space musings

Viv Mcwaters

I’ve struggled with the dotmocracy approach , and I’ve played with re-opening space (known as non-convergence convergence ). I don’t think it’s an answer – I think it’s another approach to convergence. After reviewing the session reports, I asked each person to write on an A4 sheet of paper one action that really resonated for them. It could be a big, life-changing action or a small one or anything inbetween.

How about celebrating the 20 year history of community networking and hyperlocal

Social Reporter

Although Communities Online didn’t survive as a network, I think it helped people explore what the Internet might mean to local communities, and to share experience in experimenting with different approaches before the days of blogs and other social media. My hunch that in future we’ll have to look at personalised approaches, as well as local sites, as I wrote here about Living Well with tech. Creating a manifesto with the long version and manifesto action plan.

there is no action plan. It’s a simple practice, but it works because we take an oblique approach to addressing the constraints, attractors and solidified identities that limit our ability to do good work in complex and uncertain environments.

Action, complexity and a centre

Chris Corrigan

Something Tenneson said on our last day as we were hunkering down to do some action planning, has stayed with me. He said something like “it is easy to create actions that go off in a million different directions, but much more sensible to create actions that come from a common centre. That approach works well in the complicated domain where everything can be known, or enough can be known that we can discern the wisest path forward.
