Meet Beau, a reflection chatbot

Joitske Hulsebosch

Have a look at this workshop I may facilitate for your organization. Working in a small group to design a blended training I felt very annoyed. I had the feeling we were investing too much energy in defining the goals and was worried that the team was not going in the right direction. Usually I can put my finger on what we need to do, but this time I did not know exactly where it had gone wrong. I decided to use our own " Beau the reflection chatbot ".

Collaboration is the Hallmark of Community

How to Save the World

I’ve said before that what I think are the two most important skills for the 21st century are facilitation and mentoring: Facilitation is the process of skillfully helping a group of ordinary people do their best collaborative work.

Archeology and legitimate peripheral participation

Yesterday there was a follow-up opportunity to join the team, this time to help with identification the findings. We came into the room, there was a team of people working at a big table, moving around piles of found little fragments.

Unschooling myself: traces through time

Mathemagenic

And I do less focused facilitation than I’d like to. Something I find amazing every time I experience it – how unschooling as an educational choice for the kids turns to be a personal learning trajectory for us, as parents. Over the years it made me face my worst fears and imperfections, to see and accept things as they are and to learn from that point.

Planning in pure dialogue

Chris Corrigan

As skilled dialogue facilitators, we are also skilled dialogue practitioners and we have a refined practice of hosting and harvesting our own work. There was no facilitation tool used beyond the ability to listen carefully and address the need and purpose of our work.

My personal year of learning about evaluation

Chris Corrigan

I’ve connected with Art of Hosting practitioners like Rita Fierro (with whom I’m developing a course) and Nancy Fritsche-Eagan who are really curious about how to do deep participatory facilitation work in the service of good evaluation.

The politics of translation and the role of staff in Sudbury schools

Learning Unschooling democratic schools facilitating unschooling translationIn the last few months, I’ve got involved into translating some of the materials of Sudburyschool Hardewijk from Dutch into Russian. This is a strange experience: I’m into the topics of self-directed education for quite a while but didn’t dive in-depth into the specifics of Sudbury schools until recently.

Helping kids learning to move around confidently

Mathemagenic

Unschooling facilitating unschooling independence parentingBeing able to move around without an adult is part of growing up. As the kids grow, their space also grows, from house and garden, to familiar spaces and parks, and then to the town, the country and the world. And, since I do not really enjoy the logistics of bringing theree kids back and forth to where they have to be, helping them to move around without me being involved is a process that I’m happy to speed up.

“But what about naysayers?”

Chris Corrigan

Complexity Facilitation Featured OrganizationPerhaps I need to curate a series of posts called “The Whatabout Chronicles.” ” When I’m teaching participatory leadership or sharing complexity tools, folks who are wedded to traditional linear mind and tool sets often raise objections. “Complexity would be nice, but we haven’t got the time. We have to get this problem solved now, and we need a plan to do it.”
