Improving Personal Capability to Embrace New Ideas

Michael Sampson - Currents

Search for expertise on Office 365, instead of asking someone nearby. We held a push-up competition several years ago at my house. Some of my sons could easily do 20 push-ups, but one in particular couldn’t do any (he was … 7?).

Security, identity, voice, opportunity and agency on the distributed web

Jenny Connected

Looking up definitions of the word agency reveals explanations related to business and organisations, but a search for agency in education resulted in the following two definitions: Agency is the capacity and propensity to take purposeful initiative—the opposite of helplessness.

The Quantified, Qualified and Connected Self

Jenny Connected

I was dismayed when searching for information on the Quantified Self to find reference to the Quantified Baby. My point at the time was that the ethos of self-knowledge through numbers does very little for me personally. This week the topic on the E-Learning 3.0 MOOC has been Identity.

In between there were a number of assignments, eg searching for cases or information. One person even asked " can I be with her in a group " showing how enjoyable it can be to work in smaller groups. The personal approach makes it attractive to participate. Joehoe!

Harmony and hope as pedagogies for 2018

Jenny Connected

Another question that occurred to me is ‘Can one person’s harmony be another person’s dissonance?’ All these books are essentially about searching for meaning in life. Here’s wishing anyone who visits this post, Season’s Greeting and Best Wishes for 2018.

(Microlearning) tool of the month: Guidiance

Joitske Hulsebosch

Personally, I use the word microlearning as a didactic approach, I hear that many people also use 'microlearnings' as a noun, then it's about the content, the bite-sized chunks. So go directly to guidiance.com, not through a search engine.

Identifying Dark Data in non-OCR’d Images

Michael Sampson - Currents

There are many aspects required in complying with GDPR, but one core tenet is knowing where you are storing personal data. A challenging data type in this respect is images that contain personal data but where the image has not been converted to readable text. Nearly 70% of these were image-based PDF files, undermining the firm’s ability to manage clients’ personal data and to adequately respond to a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR).

Data Breaches – It’s Not Just Hackers

Michael Sampson - Currents

Here’s some: An employee who accesses personal data records on customers or patients that are outside his or her task domain, or otherwise beyond what they need to access for their job. A county council didn’t put appropriate access security on a database containing personal and sensitive information , which meant that members of the public could access the data with a search engine.

Looking for a task management tool

Mathemagenic

Trello home page and a personal overview both have a very limited way of showing what’s up. May be what I need can be done with add ons or saved searches feature of the paid verstions. I am looking for a task management tool to organise work across people and contexts. So far we are with Trello, but I’m not happy with it. What do I need? a pool of tasks, some of which are shared with the others and belong to projects.
