My takeaways from OEB18: communities, AI and 3D-smarts and some very practical stuff

Joitske Hulsebosch

For instance, as freelance consultant I am never asked for my diplomas, but asked for relevant knowledge or previous assignments. For the first time in my life I went to the OEB learning technologies conference in Berlin. It was a great conference. I did not feel tired Friday at 18.00

My session about blended learning in Milan

Joitske Hulsebosch

Getting started with debunking The next day the real work with the Hofstede Insights consultants group started at 10.00. I walked with three colleagues in Milan. We had one day in Milan before the Hofstede Insights conference in which I had to discuss a number of myths about blended learning.

Envisioning a New Approach

Michael Sampson - Currents

Asking a consultant what they would recommend, in full understanding that a consultant can only see the world through their specialty and is blind to the world beyond that.

Improving Things for Knowledge and Information Workers

Michael Sampson - Currents

I have spent much the past couple of decades consulting on approaches for strengthening collaboration, and I do believe good tools and better approaches help with knowledge and information work. Knowledge and information workers don’t produce physical product.

Towards the idea that complexity IS a theory of change

Chris Corrigan

Through lobbying, a groundswell of support, pressure during elections, participation in consultation processes and so on. In the world of non-profits, social change, and philanthropy it seems essential that change agents provide funders with a theory of change.

SharePoint Swoop – The Intranet Makeover Show

Michael Sampson - Currents

Consultative makeovers of this kind normally take weeks. Microsoft published Season 1 of SharePoint Swoop: The Intranet Makeover Show , where three well-known MVPs swoop into an organisation for three days and make some SharePoint and Office 365 magic happen. This is Microsoft’s description: SharePoint Swoop is not a typical reality show — this new, enterprise-focused, five-part web series from Microsoft is jam-packed with fun.

Data Breaches – It’s Not Just Hackers

Michael Sampson - Currents

Again, the ICO prosecutes people for breaches of this nature, such as a recruitment consultant who stole the details of 272 individuals. In the General Data Protection Regulation and other data protection regulations around the world, data breaches are a topic of concern.

Our first year exploring how to make London a more Networked City

Social Reporter

Our biggest event recently was a simulation game workshop at London Metropolitan University where we heard about current plans for support systems focussed on the Hub; adopted roles from concerned citizen to network leader and council officer; reviewed challenges and ideas from a consultant’s report; developed further ideas, and then chose methods and actions to carry them out.

November in review: transitions

Mathemagenic

And then there are more practical things, like getting more involved in a consulting work that Robert does and working on an article together with him. November turned to be a strange month. I went to Moscow for a week, without the kids and, for a first time in many years, without a real to do list. It was good to recharge, reconnect and reconsider. It was two years since my mother passed away.

In the wind of change

Mathemagenic

I became an owner of a company, joining Robert’s adventure of starting his own consulting business. Lots of unfinished and half-started posts make it more difficult to start writing again. I feel as I should did something about the backlog first, but new things are coming up and waiting becomes less and less of an option. So, I’ll write. And at some point I finish whatever has been started and post it backdated, who cares. Anyway.

A couple of musings on democracy

Chris Corrigan

Do your governments conduct “sell and tell” sessions disguised as consultation? Two links in the feed this morning had me thinking about democracy, participation and local governance.

Mapping the social innovation ecosystems around public libraries together: the Czech connection(s)

Making CommunitySense

In the meantime, as you know if you have followed my work, the main focus of my fundamental R&D and practical consultancy has become the CommunitySensor methodology for participatory community network/collaboration mapping. Another experiment took place in Brno in October 2018.
