Just-In-Time Facilitation Support

Viv Mcwaters

You’ve been asked to facilitate a meeting – tomorrow, next week, soon! You should have done that facilitation training you’ve been meaning to do. This is what Just-In-Time Facilitation Support is all about. Facilitation

Facilitation as integration

Viv Mcwaters

This is the challenge of disruptive facilitation. I’ve always found lots of inspiration from fields outside of facilitation. “ There’s the message for facilitation! Right there is my latest, favourite description of disruptive and improvisational facilitation.

Still learning about facilitation

Viv Mcwaters

Here’s what I learnt about facilitating thanks to Melbourne Playback Theatre Group ‘s weekend workshop. What about facilitators, leaders, managers, speakers – anyone who has to stand up in front of a group? Facilitation Improv Playback TheatreYou have to keep doing something long enough to notice what’s going on for you. Taking an activity beyond what might be considered reasonable can have enormous payoffs.

Good and bad facilitation

Viv Mcwaters

Which got me thinking about good and bad facilitation. Like aid, facilitation may appear good on the surface, but scratch a little, and you might not like what you find. So, what makes good facilitation? Feel free to add you own (and alternatively, what makes bad facilitation?).

New emerging practices for trainers and facilitators

Joitske Hulsebosch

I'm currently facilitating two learning trajectories, both starting online. Both experiences made me reflect on how big the shift is for trainers and facilitator who embrace social media and integrate in in their practice. online facilitation

Co-facilitating: how hard can it be?

Viv Mcwaters

Can you pick the co-facilitators in this pic? A few recent incidents have thrown co-facilitating into sharp relief and helped clarify some of my own experiences and expectations of working closely with others. Part-time co-facilitation just doesn’t work.

Various ways to use social media as a facilitator or trainer

Joitske Hulsebosch

This is a blogpost written for a half-day workshop for facilitators with Sibrenne Wagenaar. This also means that your role as facilitator is different in the collaboration model from the wrap-around and integrated model. You facilitate the network to grow and innovate.

Community Managers and the Art of Facilitating Communities Effectively

Elsua

Of course, I am talking about the role of the Community Manager , or Community Facilitator , which has been my preferred term from the beginning. Either way, the more familiar the community facilitator is with the subject matter that drives the community, the better!

What makes Facilitating With Confidence different?

Viv Mcwaters

After 13 days facilitation training with my mate Johnnie Moore I’m excited by what I’ve learnt. We focus on who we are as facilitators – presence, commitment, curiosity, noticing – rather than what we know – processes, techniques, activities. Facilitation

Nothing worse than a facilitator?

Viv Mcwaters

′ when this jumped out at me: “In recent years, PowerPoint’s bullet list structure has been so overused that it can be more of a turn off than a facilitator.&#. And I’m not even that concerned about the bald statement about facilitators. I want to know why facilitators can be a greater turn-off than a bullet-point list on powerpoint. I want to learn so I’m not one of those facilitators. What other reactions have you had to facilitation?

In the midst of facilitation training

Viv Mcwaters

Tomorrow we start week two of three weeks of facilitation training. I’ve been thinking about how this training is quite different from the sort of training I did when I first started facilitating way back in the dark ages (before the internet). Collaboration Facilitation Learnin

7 conditions for a great facilitated workshop

Viv Mcwaters

Remember that you are facilitating a workshop, not chairing a meeting, and participants deserve to know why they are there, when to arrive and when they can leave. I once knew a facilitator who didn’t own a suit and he would tell clients that if they needed him to wear a suit then they’d have to find another facilitator. So relax and trust your skills as a facilitator and your intuition to know what will serve the group and the purpose. Facilitation

What can facilitators learn from Steve Jobs?

Viv Mcwaters

Seems to me we facilitators can learn a lot from this. Facilitation isn’t just about taking a tried and true process and using it yet again, because it worked just fine last time. Facilitation is a creative act. Creativity Design thinking FacilitationHere’s some quotes from Steve Jobs on design: “Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it’s really how it works.

Social media: a new type of hammers for change facilitators in organisations

Joitske Hulsebosch

We wrote this for the change facilitators working in and with organisations on change. A good facilitator is aware of both types of discourses and works to connect both. But there is a world of new approaches open to facilitators of change processes.

Professional facilitation techniques are an excellent starting place and can be very helpful in catalyzing a culture of mutual respect in a network. Trust makes networks work. When trust is high among members of a network, there’s a wonderful cohesiveness and capacity to get work done.
