Conference took place in Boston last week. One of my analyst friends who now works for a large software vendor used to tell me that he thought "Microsoft, IBM and Oracle" would be the three key players in enterprise collaboration. Microsoft and IBM yes, but I don't see Oracle doing a whole lot these days. The annual Enterprise 2.0 I was heavily involved in the conference in the first three years (2005-2007), but haven't been able to attend since.

IT is sometimes portrayed as the bad guy or the obstacle in the enterprise 2.0 space as some times they attempt to block or curtail social media activities. Forrester’s Nigel Fenwick presents a nice twist to this view by offering research on how social computing can boost IT productivity. I saw Nigel at the recent Enterprise 2.0

I hope to repeat this panel format in Boston in a similar manner with a structure that allows for even more audience participation.

David pointed out that within IBM the average employees tenure is under 5 years. When they did social bookmarking at IBM though Dogear it contributed to the enterprise search that everyone uses, not just the Dogear users.

Luis said at IBM there is a very different experience as it is totally open ended. In IBM there are now over 18,000 communities.   At IBM, communities help each other rather than having the organization impose top down guidelines.
