IBM Lotusphere 2009 Highlights

Yes, that same one David Terrar managed to put together under " Always say DAI - conference WiFi " a couple of months back and which, it seems, keeps failing more and more these days. Well, not many, I am afraid. At least, for now.

Tweeting Your Weight - But Not Mine

Portals and KM

As reported in the Los Angeles Times , a French company, Withings , has equipped a bathroom scale with wifi so you can send you weight and body fat ratio to Facebook and your web site. Here the perfect holiday gift for the person who has everything. It is also a sure sign that something may be happening, but does Mr. Jones know what it is?

Barriers of Social Software Adoption within the Enterprise: It Will Cost You More than You Think!

How many times have you been at the airport, waiting for that flight, connected to the WiFi, paying €6-€10 "just to be connected"? Plus you would have to add the hundreds of euros that I have been spending to pay for WiFi at hotels, airports, Internet cafés, etc.

When Online Video Consumption Moves to Exabytes in 8 Years: Will Phones, TV, Music Player, and Computers Really Converge?

Portals and KM

I now use it instead of a car radio or CD player and now have music wherever I am with no need for electricity or wifi. Good thing I got my iPhone. According to ReadWriteWeb in 8 Years, Online Video Consumption Will be Measured in Exabytes. Of course, I learned about this on Twitter. They say that one exabyte is a billion gigabytes. Oh well, I should have gotten the 32 gigabyte model. Coda, the U.K.-based

#KM4Dev – blogging session

It didn’t really work that way: we drifted away from blogging as social reporting tool (I’m not surprised, but that’s a topic for another post) and couldn’t practice as some other groups since wifi didn’t want to collaborate. Pretty unexpectedly I ended up doing a session on blogging at #KM4Dev workshop.

UC And ROI: IBM's Truth And Fiction Example

Collaborative Thinking

If instead you use Sametime to make your calls over your WiFi connection, you can avoid these international fees. I caught a couple of blog posts on the IBM Keynote for UC ( Lotusphere Message: Yes There Is a UC ROI ) and then one on the Sametime blog (see below). A few good tips and examples but also some "buyer beware" tactics that folks should be aware of. Overall - I give IBM 3 Thumbs-Up and 5 Thumbs-Down: The ROI of Unified Communications & Collaboration.

The best laid plans of man and mice… Turns out that even the network administrators could not help me configure my nokia N80 or my iPod touch to connect via the wifi in the auditorium. I recorded my own audio of my talk and was able to post-produce that within 10 minutes of completing my talk and managed to upload it thanks to Stuart and his brilliant ad-hoc ‘portal’ to the internet (bypassing completely the restricted wifi for campus network at the venue).
