Confluence 3.0 Released by Atlassian

Portals and KM

Prior to the release I spoke with Bill Arconati, Confluence Product Marketing Manager. I got a good background on the evolution of Altassian as well as preview of Confluence 3.0. As a disclosure, one of my business partners, Helix Commerce, is a Canadian reseller of Confluence but I have no direct Atlassian connection. In 2004 their wiki product, Confluence, was released. Confluence comes in both on-premise and hosted versions. With Confluence 3.0

Governance in a Networked World

I blogged elsewhere about the "death of the manual" [link] Over the past week or so I have been busy integrating our product suite into a Confluence Wiki platform. There are many levels that you can work with on the confluence wiki. Using it as a publishing space is no more difficult than browsing the web and writing in a word processor. The next level is working with the "plug-in" macros which in terms of complexity are not dissimilar to other Macro languages e.g. Excel.

Community Equity, SunSpace, FOAF+SSL, & KiWi

Collaborative Thinking

We agreed that it was unreasonable and unrealistic to expect that Sun would replace the existing Confluence installation in favor of KiWi, because the aim of KiWi cannot be to create yet another Wiki engine that competes with what is already there. If you are following open source developments related to social networks, communities, and/or the semantic web, these three efforts (Community Equity, FOAF+SSL, and Kiwi) should be of interest: CommunityEquity.

More collaboration

John Tropea - Delicious Collaboration

Engineers without Fears Saturday, September 15, 2007 More collaboration James Dellow takes up the conversation about collaboration. James D makes the point that collaboration happens within organisations & that people will use any tools that come to hand. Absolutely agree with this. James goes on to say: This cycle by the way is taking place at an enterprise level, but also at the level of individual workgroups, teams and projects.

Collaboration vs sharing

John Tropea - Delicious Collaboration

Engineers without Fears Sunday, October 14, 2007 Collaboration vs sharing James Robertson talks about collaboration tools as anti-knowledge sharing. If I understand JR correctly, his point is that collaboration tools are great for specific teams. However each team works in its own context and this leads to the creation of silos which prevents cross-organisational leveraging of this material. He also notes that this cannot be solved simply by the implementation of a search tool. I agree with him.
