#PLENK2010 Reflective Learning

Jenny Connected

Reflective learning came up in the weekly round up Elluminate session today and Stephen asked Rita to expand on her understanding of reflective learning. Every year I work, as a tutor on an online distance learning reflective learning course ( a short course – only 4 weeks), run by Oxford Brookes University, which is based on the work of Jenny Moon and on which Jenny Moon is a tutor. Today Stephen asked Rita to explain what she meant by reflective learning.

Is social housing (still) sleepwalking into a digital nightmare?

Social Reporter

Back in 2002 a group of us co-authored a book for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation about why social landlords, and their residents, should be concerned about joining the online world both for its benefits and because of the way public services were going digital. The initiative for the 2002 publication came from the Joseph Rowntree family of charities, who included both a social landlord and research foundation. Tinkering with the system won’t help reinvent the purpose of education

Jenny Connected

It cannot possibly reflect the depth of thinking presented in The Master and His Emissary. In OLDaily this week , Stephen Downes, in a comment on a post by Sasha Thackaberry , makes what to me is an astute point – that the future of education is not the same thing as the future of colleges.

77% of learning = Informal

Joitske Hulsebosch

At a company, Sara Lee, 20 employees were asked to list work-related learning activities (the exercise took place in 2002). This is a strong case for strengthening informal learning and supporting people to optimize their own informal learning processes, for instance by helping them to use social media to set up their own learning activities, for instance reflecting on experiences on the job in a blog, networking via Twitter, etc.

I Will Dispense This Advice on Blogging

Elsua

I have been blogging myself since early 2002; first, in an internal blog behind my former employer’s firewall, and, secondly, since 2005, over here in this blog. So I will tell you what has worked really nicely with me all along since I started blogging back in 2002: Write!

The Riddle of Online Resonance (first installment)

Jenny Connected

Learning through connectivity is not a new idea; there is a long history of research into networked learning (Steeple & Jones, 2002; Goodyear et al., technologies and networked online learning for autonomous learning in an increasingly diverse environment (Downes, 2009) have led to many authors (Krebs (2002), Haythornthwaite (2002), Granovetter (1973, 1983), to name but a few) exploring how connections are made and developed in online environments.

Some members act as e-facilitators or braiders who help to shape the argument, provide interim summaries and change the direction of the discussion (Preston, 2002; Preston & Holmes, 2002; Cuthell, 2005). Portals and KM

To get in the mood I have been reflecting on the music of the Louisiana countryside. He made a comeback in the early 80s and toured until his death in 2002. I first heard him in Montreal, on the riverfront at a Confederation Day celebration in 2002. I am getting ready to go the New Orleans, Lafayette, Breaux Bridge and few other towns in south west Louisiana to enjoy the food and music. I will be writing about this trip a good bit on this blog on weekends.

Blogging for knowledge workers: incubating ideas

Mathemagenic

For its author a weblog might be useful as as personal information management tool, a kind of outboard brain ( Cory Doctorow, 2002 ), used to organise information and thinking. At the beginning it is about awareness and capturing, when a new idea first comes to your radar, either being brought by others or articulated as a result of reflecting on your experiences. Over time ideas captured and organised they provide a fertile ground for reflection and reuse.
