Nancy Baym, an associate professor of communication studies at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, suggests that at least when it comes to relationship effects, fears are not backed up by the research so far. The study of 1,178 adults ages 25 to 74 is based on data collected at the Center for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California in 2002 and 2007.
