A few tips for ning administrators: 1. This is something I first saw in the ning about Worldwide story work but now I don't see it there? Do you have more tips to customize a ning site to your needs?
...Tags: I've been exploring Ning a little further than I did and compared it to other forums like socialgo, collectivex and grou.ps . Gro.ups is open source, has a lot of similar functionalities to ning (and more- you can upload files easily) and is also without advertisements (for free!).

I'll add that advice to my repertoire of tips for getting people to tell their stories on video. A few nights ago I watch Changeling starring Angelina Jolie. It's directed by Clint Eastwood (has he ever directed a dud movie?) and I was fascinated by a short documentary we found in the DVD extras where Clint explained why he never calls out 'Action' when directing a scene.

Tags: Orientations Resources Tips and Practices spidergra It is so lovely having a fabulous network – including people I just barely know, but who then hook in with a moment of insight, a remix or ready to augment a forming idea or practice. Gabriele Sani from World Vision in Italy has recently done this with the Community Orientations Spidergram from our Digital Habitats book.

Tags: Communities of Practice Tips and Practice Crossposted from my Full Circle Blog
I was cruising through my blog reader, hopelessly “behind” in reading (my own construction - I know I can “mark all read!”) 8221;) and came upon a post from Vic Desotelle who pointed to a TED talk on Compassion which somehow lead me to a Garr Reynolds post about a TED Talk by Evan Williams of Twitter. (Talk about the network!)

Continuing further with the blog post series of Mac Tips I have been putting together over here on the good number of (social software) tools I get to use on a regular basis to help me be more productive, I thought I would cover today what, to me, is perhaps the biggest productivity tool I have bumped into on the Mac for the nearly two years I have been using my MacBook Pro as my main work machine.
In the past I have talked about RSI a couple of times and have shared a number of tips on how to help prevent it. It’s one of those tools that I would not classify per se as a social software tool, yet, it surely is helping me engage further in the social networking space much easier, and faster (As well as healthier!)

Tags: Communities of Practice Tips and Practice I’ve always found webinar software like WebEx , Elluminate , or GoToMeeting to be constraining and, because they try to be a “total solution” they don’t play well with other uses or software. Because they’re popular they’re used in situations where they’re inappropriate.

To help improve your community communication, here are 9 tips for creating inspired (and inspiring) text communication.
Make the time to assess; the rest of the tips below are only as good as you are at applying them. To round out the 9 tips for inspired (and inspiring) text communications, remember that great content takes more than one pass. Let’s get this out of the way right up front: text-based communication is extremely difficult. In face-to-face communication, you have three forms of communication taking place at once: words (verbal), voice (vocal), and body (nonverbal).
