China launched a major pilot project in 12 cities nationwide this July to help converge the telecommunications, Internet and broadcast networks. In China, the move to bring the three sectors together has been considered for more than a decade. It will be interesting to see how this move shakes out. MORE >>

Meanwhile, the Chinese government continues to clamp down on social networks it suspects are being used to foment dissent. Earlier in the year it blocked Twitter; now it is the turn of professional business network LinkedIn , which has been used by dissidents to co-ordinate protests against the regime. MORE >>
