The phone diagram shown below indicates that I think the phone is on the participation end (unless you reify the conversation with a recording); you have to participate in real time, so it’s synchronous (exchanging voice-mails moves the red triangle toward asynchronous); and it’s a one-to-one experience, so I place it close to the individual end of the spectrum. Each software feature makes sense within the context of a tool, and each tool is framed by its position on a platform, which has meaning in the context of a configuration that’s shared by a group of people.

In the crowded collaboration software market, Central Desktop remains the only full-featured SaaS collaboration solution designed specifically for the mid-market since 2005. The company is trying to dislodge legacy on-premises installations from Microsoft and IBM while fighting off SAAS (software-as-a-service) solutions from those same companies, as well as new cloud offerings from Cisco Systems and from a slew of startups such as Zoho, Mindtouch and others. The desire to be synchronized, coordinated, to have beautiful choreographed teamwork across multiple scales. What if we could create an economic system where the barnraising was the paradigm, rather than the war or the mining operation. For synchronous engagements, consider 7-10 minute chunks in your plan. There are two areas that beg for some deeper exploration about engagement, one on the software or tool side and the other on the process side. Online we have to do this with both software and process. Use Candace Whitehead, the Facilitator Support Specialist for the Florida Online Reading Professional Development project funded by the Florida DOE and housed at the University of Central Florida [link] contacted me last month inviting me to participate in a web meeting with the cohort of online facilitators working in learning and particularly around literacy issues.

synchronization of read/unread marks, de-duping of redundant feed items, etc). That said, I have always felt that feed syndication platforms constitute the backbone for social software/Enterprise 2.0 Two years ago there were three major players offering software that delivered information to the computers of business users via RSS. The article below is interesting in that it does call out a dark truth - enterprise adoption of feed syndication tools has been lacking. However, However, the article disappoints because it gives too much credit to feed readers as the reason.

significant part of the value the people get from enterprise social software is finding the smart and plugged-in people in their organization. Within an enterprise, any type of "Twitter" system will be linked to directory systems in much the same way as e-mail and instant messaging systems are linked via address book synchronization techniques.
Yes, someone could come along with a synchronization model but that's neither here nor Some good points in this post from Adina Levin (Socialtext). For the most part I agree but we're still in the phase were vendors are hyping the benefits

However, the facilitative practices must evolve in conjunction with the software. As I dove deeper into knowledge management and knowledge sharing in international development, social software was growing, changing and evolving. So social software + networks = change and even transformation. (One This afternoon I’m spending a half hour on a Skype video conversation to share a bit of how I use social media. I
