In the Social Media Breakfast Seattle Podcast, we explored the relationships between Lean thinking and social media. Of course, Personal Kanban comes up there as well. Yi-Tan Call #261 - Personal Kanban With Jerry Michalski's group, I discuss Personal Kanban, how it started, and how it works. Yi-Tan Call #268 - Personal Kanban for Teams Again with Jerry's virtual roundtable, I discuss how Personal Kanban and other kanban applications work for teams, groups, and organizations. have not used them many times yet, but we’ve used them similar to the Social Media card game (which itself is a great free resource) or as a rotating conversation starter on KS methods. There are also thematic sets, like the clever US centric Media Heroes from Seattle’s Reclaim the Media project (though I struggle to read the tiny text!)
I love things you can touch and play with when facilitating face to face. This is probably why I was so attracted to the “drawing on walls” involved in graphic facilitation , kinesthetic modeling

Nancy White offers reflections on the recent “Journalism that matters” gathering in Seattle, including thoughts on how social reporting relates to mainstream and citizen journalism. Nancy quotes me as suggesting social reporting is “an emerging role, set of skills and philosophy around how to mix journalism, facilitation and social media to help people develop conversations and stories for collaboration” and goes on to say:
I suspect citizen journalism is a form of social reporting. For me the question is about transparency

This post is fourth in a series of my Social Media Principles. The base post is 10 Social Media Principles . 4. People at the companies who are actually responsible for success are disempowered from making decisions or creating growth. Social Media has shown us that the decentralization of power and information have led to very rapid advances in productivity and a very different set of assumptions about personal empowerment. Decentralization is freedom – Decentralized power structures spur creativity, growth, and innovation. Note: Writing a short blog post on this is like writing a short blog post on why it’s hard to cure addiction.

After the 10 Principles of Social Media for Business came out, people began to engage us on different real-world applications. They wanted us to think of ways the 10 Principles would apply to education. We applied the 10 Principles to educations’ need to: Broadcast Value Streamline Publication Increase Communication Increase Access to Information and Resources Modus Cooperandi’s Paper on Social Media for Higher Education for the University of Lisbon can be downloaded from the Modus Cooperandi site. This post is seventh in a series of my Social Media Principles. The base post is 10 Social Media Principles . Principle #7 - Context is Fluid – How you view an object today will be different tomorrow. But when creating your design, ask yourself “Are my assumptions limiting this product’s potential?” Social media has been great for taking an idea devised for one purpose and re-purposing it. Don’t destroy tomorrow’s value. In my humble opinion, most of the business failures we’ve seen in the tech sector are due to an utter disregard for this principle. Context is fluid.

And that's as it should be. Nothing technological, cultural, social, or even philosophical happened after 2000, that didn't have a counterpart in 1900. In the end, the principle is what needs to be kept in mind, and not the dogmatic application some guy invented for his particular project. All writers and all media have found themselves dealing with this. Pick up any magazine and there's a good chance you'll find an article that turns out to be an advertisement about half way through. In fact, we think that paying bloggers to write about your company is a dangerous and unsavory path for new media and advertisers to go down. We recognize that it's a complicated Today, Jeremiah Owyang posted “ A running list of sponsored conversations ”. He has a laundry list of sites and products that engage in various forms of advertising and paid content. The article and
