This month, Forum One and Autodesk hosted a panel titled, "Social Media for Social Impact" during Social Media Week in San Francisco. We had the privilege of having four panelists who each told a story demonstrating how the social web had empowered communities around social causes.
Connie Chan from Yahoo! eBay's described how status updates and Flickr photos were used to spread awareness of Yahoo!'s s " You In? "

Social Media Week features a week of social media events, including, conferences, discussions, and meet-ups that take place simultaneously in multiple cities around the world. The aim of each event is to advance the use and understanding of social media in the corporate, public and non-profit sectors. Many social media projects start as skunkworks projects and sometimes this is the only way to gather the evidence that the demand and the benefits are there. as social media people leave the company, community ghost towns will appear as no-one knew about all the cul-de-sacs of conversations existed and there’s no-one to carry on the conversation
I’m at the Communities 2.0 It’s such a beautiful and diverse city and sadly not enough time to explore (sigh).

Conference in Paris and Web Mission 09 in San Francisco taking up much of our time and space on the blog. There are a number of examples of healthcare providers making good use of social media and online communities, and Mayo Clinic are one of the most notable of these. My head is spinning from a rapid infusion of knowledge gleaned from three days at the 2009 Nonprofit Technology Conference in San Francisco. (My Meanwhile, I wanted to share a nice summary of one of the more popular sessions that we did not lead: "Confessions of a Social Media Campaigner."
