A Journey In Social Media A journal about my personal thoughts regarding evolving a comprehensive social media strategy at a large company. « Our Day Of Fame? | Main | On Conversational Collaboration » February 13, 2008 Organization Roles For Corporate Social Media Well, now that Im getting seen a bit more often here in the blogosphere, I guess I have to spend more time sharing what weve learned. Todays discussion is about how we handled some of the new roles needed for an enterprise-wide rollout of this stuff.

If I use a wiki within a business process where people are directed by role, workflow and functional needs of the procedure - thats not all that emergent at all - in fact, its not really a valid Enterprise 2.0 However, it the wiki was open and allowed participation from others in the organization even though their role, workflow or functional duties did not direct them to interact with that wiki group - well, now we have crossed over into the emergence aspects of Enterprise 2.0 - and, were back to "the culture thing". Centrality often leads to a discussion on the type of nodes (and roles they may play) within a social network: Connectors: are actors that have a large number of links directed towards them such that they function as a central hub. Brokers: are often actors that have a high degree of betweeness such that they are in a role of influence where they can acts as gatekeepers and filters for various relation flows.
